  Video and sound IC's
Posted by: TheRealAnubis - 05-23-2014, 03:50 PM - Forum: Wanted - Replies (7)

Hi,

I just got my first TI-99 and it doesn't work. Tested the power supply - good, tested the internal power board - good. No video (black screen), and the sound IC gets incredibly hot in about 10 seconds.

The sound IC is SN94624N and the video IC is TMS9918ANL.

I'm not finding a source for the audio chip at all, and all of the video IC's seem to be in Hong Kong.

I wrote TI and asked if the SN76489 is considered a drop in replacement for this IC, but I haven't heard from them yet...

Anyone have any working spares?

  TI 99/4a hardware etc.
Posted by: sjt99 - 05-16-2014, 12:47 AM - Forum: Wanted - Replies (4)

Primarily, I'm looking for some of the third party hardware that was sold for the TI 99/4a.
If you have come to this site trying to find out if there is interest in the TI after 30 years, the answer is yes.
Even before a recent TV show mentioned it.

So, if your looking for a new home for some of that long ago used and forgotten equipment, send me a message.

If I can't use it, I can steer you in the right direction.

If you know someone that may have some of these things collecting dust and they would like to see them find a new home and be appreciated, again send me a message.

Since most third party vendors of TI 99/4a equipment have moved on, or gone out of business many products sold are no longer available.

If you have any third party TI hardware looking for a new home , send me a message. Expansion cards, etc

  TI graphics
Posted by: sjt99 - 05-13-2014, 01:36 PM - Forum: Software - Replies (2)

Is there a program out there for TI to help in graphics design.
Something that you can set the graphic size, assuming your not looking to fill an entire screen. That can also output HEX data either as a block or in single character data codes?

It could be something written to run on a pc with the capability to output data for the TI.

I know there are programs to draw a single character 8x8 and output hex strings, but is there something that can create a larger graphic to be incorporated in say in xbasic or dumped into a assy prgm.
Say a graphic 5x5 or 10x10

There were some old drawing programs, but I don't recall if any had this capability. There were some csgd graphics and rle graphics not sure what created them or if they output hex codes.

512K Eprom cartridge using 378 switching

Can someone who has setup a large eprom for this board share in detail the process. I assume there wasn't a loader made to do this?
A small example, with source , and assembled bin file would be greatly appreciated.

Pm me if you can help.

Or post info here.

Again this board does not have grom emulation it's V09a

  Horizon ramdisk source files

Does anyone have source files for a late version of the horizon ramdisk operating system (ROS). I'm looking for source code that includes the CFG program.

  rs232 cru bits
Posted by: sjt99 - 04-20-2014, 08:52 PM - Forum: Software - Replies (1)

Could someone out there with a Mini Memory cartridge use it on a TI rs232
I need to know how the CRU Bits respond.
C1302---->130E (130E) will turn the LED on.
Especially interested if you can manipulate the bit all bits between 1300-->130E
I can't, i want to know if this is normal or not?

I could really use someone with a mini memory cartridge and a TI rs232 card to run the TI diagnostic written to run from the Mini Memory cartridge.
When I run it, the card fails at 1302.
I'm trying to determine if there is a fault with the card or the software.

Steve

P.S I can upload the diagnostic disks which includes the file to load and run out of mini memory run with the word "run"

  Eprom Programmer
Posted by: sjt99 - 04-18-2014, 09:32 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (3)

I promised a few people I would post info on a recently purchased Eprom Programmer.

I found this unit listed in a few locations but settled on a vendor on ebay.
Besides being able to program 2532 directly it can program just about any other chip out there. Though some chips may require an adapter.
It also (most of the time) will run right off the USB port.

There is a newer version , but this one is fine.

True USB GQ-3X EPROM chip Burner Programmer

It can be had for as little as $79 with shipping, in my opinion, it's a no brainer.

For the majority of chips you will be programming there is no need for any adapters of even external power. Some of the eproms need the supply augmented, a wall transformer works fine. Most of the time it can program them using the power from the USB port.

  Original Horizons Ramdisk Modifications
Posted by: sjt99 - 04-18-2014, 09:21 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (4)

I recently revived a Horizons Ramdisk and noticed there were a few changes made to it that I didn't have on my original HRD.
After much searching, I found the document detailing when these changes were made. I was curious because I recently saw a photograph on another forum of the HRD that did not have the Mod's on the card I have.

The sheet attached is a rejuvenated copy of the Bud Mills Mod sheet on the HRD from 1988.

The 2 modifications address the following concerns and issues with the original cards.
The first was to allow the TI computer to reset the card during it's cpu power up.
The second was to make the card invisible to the system by disabling it's CRU by use of a switch located on the card rear edge.

If you have a early Horizons Ramdisk, check to see if you have these modifications.

Steve

P.S. If your reading this and have a spare Horizons Ramdisk, or a friend that does and want to see it be used again by a new owner , working or not, message me.
