CaDD Electronics has received permision from Texas Instruments to reproduce the origingal manuals that came with some 99/4A cartriges. The information below was posted by Mike Wright to the 99/4A list server.
PC99 PHx manuals are supplied in WordPerfect Envoy runtime format.
Envoy is a portable document format that maintains the line endings,
page breaks, formatting and font information contained in a document
created by an application such as WordPerfect.
The supplied Envoy format is a PC executable file (.EXE) and contains
the Envoy runtime viewer. It must be run under MS Windows or Windows 95.
To view a PHx manual from a diskette in drive A:
Windows 3.x Windows 95
Pull down the File menu Click the Start button
Select Run Click Run
Enter a:\phxnnnn.exe Enter a:\phxnnnn.exe
where: x = c for cassette, d for diskette, or m for command module; and nnnn
is the original TI product number. For example: the Structural Engineering
Library is PHD5016; the Diagnostic command module is PHM3000.
When the manual is displayed you have access to Envoy's features. You can use
its menus to:
- Search for any text in the document
- Print the document using your Windows printer driver
- Highlight selected sections of the document
- Add your own notes
The PC99 PHx manuals were created by scanning original Texas Instruments manuals
twice, using a Hewlett Packard ScanJet IICX color scanner. In the first pass the
text areas were converted to editable text using Omnipage 6.0 optical character
recognition (OCR) software. In the second pass, the graphics were scanned directly
using HP Deskscan II v2.1 and stored in TIFF 5.0 format.
The text was then edited, marked up for typography changes (italic, bold, and headings)
and spell-checked. Unlike the original, we have numbered all headings, and used them
to generate a table of contents. Corrections have been made to fix original errors.
However, it is possible that new errors have been introduced. If you find one please
let us know and we will fix it.
The graphics were converted from TIFF to WPG using Hijaak. Black and white graphics
were scanned at 600 dpi. Color covers were scanned at 100 dpi to save storage space,
and converted to 16-color WPG format. Because of this, the covers will only be
representative of the original color. In some cases, the covers might be "blotchy".
There are also some minor changes to the page layouts. In most cases we have
simplified some of the TI layouts to save time in formatting. Pages have also
been re-numbered so that the first page of the manual text is page 1. For many
of the 8.5" x 5.5" manuals, the original page breaks have been preserved.
Some of the TI manuals contained indexes. These have not been created because of
time constraints. Instead, you can use Envoy's search feature to locate any text.

with Texas Instruments. The following conditions apply to the distribution:
