I built and used JoyTalk for a long time, it worked quite well.
However, you'd be hard pressed to make it work both ways, it was
output only, but it used several inputs to detect paper out and
the like - it was really only useful as a printer port, I'm afraid.
(It was also limited by needing the MiniMem, at least in original form.)
