Huge pile of 99'er Hardware to sell at next to shipping cost.
Posted by: manuelito - 10-07-2017, 01:05 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (4)

Hello World,

Originally I had planned that, after a long and colorful live in corporate IT, I should enjoy my huge Ti 99/4a bounty and play with old memories for years to come.
But alas, life had different plans for me and now I got half a storage room of TI 994/a multiple Consoles. many Expansion (Peri-) Boxes, Joysticks, Cables, Printers, Game and Programming Modules, Expansion Cards, Geneve, UCSD Pascal, Memory Expansions, Forth Module, Handbooks, Game Cassettes and so on and so on and so on. Their condition varies from mint to heavily used but most of it was in prime working order last time I checked on it and it has been in secure storage ever since.
I think it would be a shame to throw it all into the garbage bin, so if someone offers me just enough for shipping and packaging and the time it'll take me to get it all to UPS, then its yours for the keeping. A lot of fond memories go along with it, but my life has become a bit too turbulent, for such a humongeous treasure ;-)
As of now its all in storage in Albuquerque, NM and I should get a chance to get it out of there around November or December of 2017.
The storage shed is scheduled to get cleaned out by the end of this year, so hurry folks if you want to get your hands on this lot - and it only goes by the full load, as I don't have the time to dispose of this pile piece by piece.

  My TI99 smells
Posted by: Coorhagon - 09-23-2017, 10:27 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (1)

Hi. I bought an in box ti994a with all its manuals and cords and stuff at a yard sale. When I got in my car I realized it smelled really bad. Its got this moldy mildew smell to it. The box doesnt seem to have any discoloration from water damage and I dont see any mold or anything. I stuck it in a large box with aome dryer sheets for now but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this and if there is any way to get the smell out or clean it.

  Probably a bad purchase?
Posted by: Primpwatcher - 09-08-2017, 12:51 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (4)

I purchased a brand new 99/4A a few months ago, the beige one. It has a Target price tag for $59.95, so it was sold during the price wars with Commodore. Anyway, it was brand new, manuals, inserts and everything in between. I have tried 5 different video connectors and cannot get it to show anything on the screen, even the ones that claim to work with a 99. All cables are 5-pin. I have included a screen shot to show what I see on the screen and a not-so-good pic of the video connector. It would suck if it's a bad chip since this is brand new. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  Programming the Speech Synthesizer
Posted by: opusfish - 09-06-2017, 09:22 AM - Forum: Software - Replies (2)

Hi,

I'm hoping someone here might be able to help me. I've been doing a lot of reading the last couple of days and haven't found specific enough information regarding the capabilities and programming of the speech synthesizer.

My parents have an old TI 99 4/a that I am planning to borrow and hopefully program as part of an art installation. From what I've read, using the attached speech synthesizer and the Extended Basic cartridge will allow me to program basic text for the synthesizer to read. Overall, it sounds fairly limited, but I'm hopeful it might still work for my purposes.

What I'd like to do is input approximately five simple sentences, most of which use the same words in a different order. If possible, I'd like each sentence to appear on the screen as it is being read, then once the computer has finished reading all five, the screen would clear and start over again from the beginning, over and over, on a continuous loop. If I get really lucky, I'd like to play a small sound at the end of the five sentences; something like you'd hear if you died in Hunt the Wumpus.

Does anyone know if it is possible to continuously loop programmed speech and/or sounds on the TI?

  Disk drive Problems
Posted by: jhwblender - 03-05-2017, 05:09 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (1)

Hey guys!
I have a expansion box with a 5.25" disk drive model PHP 1250.
After I had aquired the expansion box, I had no trouble with it and was able to read and write programs on the disk drive as well as use disk manager. Unfortunaly it wasn't but too long that I got to play to play with it. Just randomly one morning it started giving me an error saying that none of the disks I have are initialized. When I try to initialize a disk it seems to be writing to it with no problem and then gives me error 31 (record not found on input).
I tried cleaning the PCB (seemed to have some white corrosiony powder on it). I tried also cleaning the read/write head, but I'm getting the same error.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Original 32K Mod for Speech Synthesizer
Posted by: sjt99 - 01-21-2017, 07:34 PM - Forum: Hardware - No Replies

.pdf   32modforspeech.pdf (Size: 738.09 KB / Downloads: 11)
This is the original 32K mod drawing with comments by John Wilforth, plus some additions by me sometime later.

It does use (4) static ram chips stacked, instead (1) larger 32K chip.
