Cassette Recorder Problem

Postby PeterS » December 31st, 2011, 12:50 pm

I have recently brought out my TI-99 4a computer after being in storage since the mid 1980s. Amazingly it still works. However, the cassette recorder is not able to turn a cassette in PLAY mode. It does spin in PLAY mode without a cassette installed. It can also FF and REW with and without a cassette.
Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks,

Peter

Can you easily turn the tape yourself? Like with the eraser end of a pencil?
Tapes are notorious for jamming. A fix (I read many years ago) is to take the tape and slam it down on its side... this loosens it up some.

Otherwise, it will be a recorder issue - one I've had before. I just replaced mine instead. You can still pick up a pretty decent recorder at Walmart - surprising as it may be.

I've tried several cassette tapes so that is not likely the problem. I didn't realize you can buy new recorders so cheap. I'll try that route. Thanks...
